Me

This is somewhat of an attempt to let you know who I am, from my school life to my home life to...anything else, I guess.

SCHOOL LIFE:

I'm a sophomore at OU (if you wanna get picky, I'm a first semester junior with the number of hours I have, but I'm a second year student). My major as of right now is Architecture, but that could change. After living in the Honors Dorm my freshman year, I've decided dorm life is not for me. So I now have my own apartment in Norman. :)
All of my friends go to OU, except for Katherine, who is going to the University of Washington in Seattle; Katya, who's going to New Mexico Tech in Santa Fe; and Heather B., who's going to St. Olaf in Minnesota.

FUTURE LIFE:

It's all kinda up in the air right now. I intend to graduate from OU with some sort of degree, and after that, I'll move to a larger city in the US to get a job. I think I'd like living in Denver, Seattle, or Chicago. Maybe Boston. Whatever my career turns out to be, I definitely want it to leave room for an ample family life. I eventually want to raise three kids (ideally two boys and one girl, hehe).

MUSIC LIFE:

As you may or may not have guessed, the Smashing Pumpkins are a huge part of who I am. I discovered the Pumpkins in 8th grade. "Bullet with Butterfly Wings" and "1979" first caught my ear, and I thought, "Gee, these guys are pretty cool." So, having faith on my intuitions, I spent my \$28 to purchase Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness. Ever since then, I've been what most call a Pumpkinhead. I have 45 CDs, 8 posters, 6 shirts, over 30 magazines, over 13 VHS tapes, 3 original concert recordings (courtesy of me and Katherine), over 150 pictures from various sources, and a closet to envy. I saw the Pumpkins four times: 11-1-97, in Ft. Worth, Texas, opening for the Rolling Stones with Matchbox 20 and the Dave Matthews Band; 7-15-98, at HORDE in Oklahoma City; 5-12-00, in Dallas, Texas; and 11-29-00, in Chicago (the next to last concert). Liking the Pumpkins (for me, at least) is something much deeper than thinking they rock, or thinking that Billy's cute. I respect the band as musicians, and as role models (except D'arcy; I find it hard to respect a crack addict- and see, I can respect Jimmy now cause he's clean). I also believe that they are one of the only rock bands left today who still have any sort of integrity. To put it simply: their job is to make music, and to sell records. And they do their job well.

Here are some drawings I did of the Pumpkins:

Even though the Pumpkins broke up, I think they'll always be a huge part of who I am. They've been with me through the most important years of my life thus far, and I think it's definitely an experience that will continue to shape me.
I went to Dallas on September 9 last year, and got a SP tattoo! It hurt, but it was definitely bearable...Click here to see my tattoo. If everything goes as planned, I'll have another tattoo by the end of this spring. I want the moon and stars from the Tonight, Tonight page in the MCIS liner notes, in blue, on the small of my back.

-Other bands I'm a big fan of-

  • Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers: You've all heard them before, I'm sure. Tom's the man.
  • Air: A wonderful French band from Versailles. Check out my page on them to find out more.
  • Fleetwood Mac: In my opinion, the Smashing Pumpkins of the 70s. Stevie Nicks is my witchy woman.
  • Dave Matthews Band: I saw these guys a couple years ago, and that violin player is incredible.
  • The Beatles: Abbey Road is genious! Any sane person that is a fan of rock and roll should realize what a great debt all musicians of today have to these guys.
  • The Flaming Lips- I only have "The Soft Bulletin", but after I saw them live in February, I grew to like them a lot. They're funny, heartbreaking, beautiful, and genius, all at once.

Bands I've seen live!

PASSIONATE LIFE:

If there's one thing that you should know about me, it's that I'm passionate. I'm passionate about the music I listen to, the places I love, and the people I love.

"If you are lucky enough to have lived in Paris...then where ever you go for the rest of your life, it stays with you, for Paris is a movable feast." - Ernest Hemingway

One new passion of mine is Paris...I went to Paris for two weeks during the summer of 99, and absolutely loved it. I think I have found a place in the world that I absolutely love, the kind of place that makes you like this planet. I am currently working on making some sort of new Paris page for my site...I got tired of looking at all those pictures.

New Passion No. 2: Sylvia Plath. Wow, what can I say about this woman? Her words are incredible. She's inspired me for the first time in years to actually read for pleasure. I finally got my Plath page up, with over 30 of her poems. So go read them! I recommend "Poppies in October."

FAMILY LIFE:

I am the oldest sibling in my family. I have one younger sister who is 16. I have an English Setter named Freckles, she's 9 years old now. My parents have been married for twenty years. My mom's a dental hygeniest in Ardmore, and my dad works for a contracting company in Oklahoma City. I've lived in Norman all my life, although we moved across town (east-side to west-side)when I was in 5th grade. All of my immediate family lives in Oklahoma, mostly Muskogee. I'm one quarter Polish, my great-grandfather on my Dad's side was born in Poland. And I'm also a little Cherokee Indian, I'm related to the Cherokee Chief John Ross (he was chief during the Trail of Tears).

RANTING:

No rant for now...My mind has been kinda blank lately. I don't know if I'm just blindly stumbling through life, or if my life is just super boring, or what.
